Junior lightweight Tevin Farmer (25-4-1, 5 KOs) and his brother were shot during an altercation over the weekend. RingTV reports that Farmer was set to travel to Brooklyn to attend the Broner-Garcia fight on Saturday but first went to his niece's birthday party where violent confrontation broke out.
According to promoter Lou DiBella the father of Farmer's niece left the party following an altercation and returned with some friends, at least one of whom was carrying a gun. During a scuffle to disarm one of the men, Farmer was shot in the hand while his brother was grazed with a bullet near his eye. The bullet passed clean through Farmer's hand without breaking any bones or tearing any tendons, but he's expected to be out now for a few months while he recovers.
The suspected shooter in the incident has been charged with two counts of attempted murder.
Farmer took to Instagram last night to thank everybody for their well wishes and says he'll be back in action soon. He was cleared of any wrongdoing by the local police.
